How to Bold and Italicize Text on LinkedIn

Updated

At the time of writing, LinkedIn’s post composer has no formatting buttons (LinkedIn articles and newsletters do). For regular posts, comments and your headline, you can use Unicode bold and italic characters instead.

Steps

  1. Write your post and decide which words need emphasis.
  2. Paste just those words into the bold text generator or italic text generator and copy the result.
  3. Paste them back into your LinkedIn post in place of the plain words.

Bold (sans-serif) blends in best with LinkedIn’s font.

Best practices

  • Use bold for structure: short headings inside a long post, or a key takeaway.
  • Don’t style keywords people search for. LinkedIn search won’t match 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 to “marketing”.
  • Think about screen readers. Styled text can be read out letter by letter. Keep the important message in plain text.
  • Underline works too, with the underline generator.

Format a whole post at once

The LinkedIn text formatter lets you select words in your post, make them bold, italic or underlined, and copy the finished post with a 3,000-character counter.
