YouTube Fonts
Make your comments and video descriptions stand out with bold headings, cursive names and struck-through jokes. Type below, copy a style and paste it into YouTube.
YouTube comments also understand a little formatting of their own, and you can combine the two.

Fancy text on YouTube
- Built-in formatting: in comments, *asterisks* make text bold, _underscores_ make it italic and -hyphens- strike it through.
- Descriptions: styled headings break up long descriptions, but keep the first lines and keywords in plain text so search can read them.
- Titles: styled letters in video titles aren’t matched by search, so use them sparingly, if at all.
- Channel name: styled text is allowed, but plain letters are easier for viewers to find and @mention.
YouTube character limits
| Name | 50 |
|---|---|
| Video title | 100 |
| Description | 5,000 |
| Comment | 10,000 |
Some apps count a styled letter as two characters, so leave a little room.
Questions
How do I bold text in a YouTube comment?
Put asterisks around the words, like *this*, or paste in bold text from this page. The pasted version also works in descriptions and community posts.
Can fancy fonts hurt my videos in search?
Styled letters are different characters from normal ones, so search can’t match them. Use them for decoration, and keep titles, tags and the start of your description in plain text.
